Traditional Barbecue Sauce
Any Southern cook worth their salt in the kitchen has a barbecue sauce they call their own. I am no exception. I love barbecue in all different forms and this sauce is always a hit!
Traditional Barbecue Sauce
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups ketchup
1 cup white vinegar
3 T. red pepper
5 T. red hot sauce
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 onion, sliced
2 T. butter
2 bay leaves
1 T. majoram
1 1/2 T. liquid smoke
3 T. honey
2 T. all purpose flour
3 T. worcestershire sauce
In a sauce pan add sugar, ketchup, vinegar, and flour, cooking over medium heat until flour is absorbed. Add remaining ingredients and cook until the onions are tender.
Great served over all types of barbecue like ribs, chicke, beef roast, and pork butt.
