Homemade Biscuits
I had a friend request my biscuit and gravy recipe and being from the South there is nothing more classic than this. I am posting the recipes separately because obviously they do not have to be served together but can be. These biscuits bake up light and fluffy.
Homemade Biscuits
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 T. baking powder
1 T. white sugar
1/2 t. salt
1/2 cup butter, cold
1 cup milk, may need a bit more til the dough is the right consistency.
Combine the dry ingredients together well. Mix in the cold butter with a pastry blender or by hand until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add the cup of milk and mix well. You may need to add more milk until the dough pulls way from the side of the bowl. Place the dough mixture on a floured surface and knead about 10 to 15 times. Roll out to a 1/2 inch thickness and cut into biscuits. Bake at 450 for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Cooks note: Add the milk a little at a time so that you don't get the mixture too wet. Do not over knead the dough or the biscuits will be tough.
