Where it all started...

So for a moment of vanity - my sister sent me pictures from this last Christmas of me with my family - so here are a few pics.

Me and my grandmother.  For anyone who reads my recipes frequently this is my greatest cooking inspiration.  I cant believe sometimes how much like her that I am.  She and I both set down and read cookbooks like they are actual reading books, I can read them from cover to cover.  We call her everything in the book so lord only knows what I have referenced her as in my posts... Mamaw Shirley, Mamaw Barbee, Mamaw, Mama Gails Momma - the list goes on and on.


Not a great photo but its me and my Mom.  Its all I have right now.  I have a few recipes from her but she admittedly hardly ever cooks anymore.  She is way too busy!  I'm not real sure what my baby brother (he just turned 18) and my step-dad eat!?!  I have to say though that my Mom makes the Stardust Salad which have posted a recipe for and love!

Ok, I have to admit this one is pure vanity.  They have nothing to do with my cooking.  These are my two favorite nephew, Preston and Matt, my sister Jennifer's two sons.  I love going home just to see these boys!

    I am looking at your site at least once a week for ideas and inspiration. I am a mom with 4 kids and I also cook for 3 other people, (I freeze portions of what I make for dinner and they pick up meals once a week). Now I am pregant with twins (Im a surrogate) and having a little trouble with morning sickness so I was looking for some crock pot type meals lately. I always find something on your site or ideas for something. I made mizithra pasta the other night:) I just wanted to say that I enjoy your no-nonsense, fun and taste good recipes.
    Today I was looking for a mexican soup recipe and didnt find quite what I wanted anywhere so made up my own. I just tried some and it's wonderful! It seems to me that many of your recipes are like this...take something and make it your own with whats on hand or what is your mood!

    Anyway, I love your stuff and just wnated to tell you!

One of my favorite restaurants is Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli. On many of their sandwiches they use what they call a “Cajun Sauce.” This sauce is sort of like a mix between mayonnaise and hot sauce. Brownies on Steroids

I decided on my 5th week of the 12 Weeks of Christmas Cookies to make a bar cookie.  I made these a few weeks back and took them to a party and they got rave reviews... my friends like to tease me when I make them desserts asking if I could figure out how to pack more calories into each serving than I already do!  Well these certainly live up to the calorie overload they have learned to expect! In all honesty I did find them to be tasty and a lot like a traditional 7 Layer Bar except with a brownie base instead of the traditional grahm crackers.  I made the recipe as written but I figured in a time pinch you could easily use a box brownie mix made per the instructions on the box and topped with all the yummy toppings.  I have a mixed feeling about them because I personally found there to be too many toppings so I would have probably scaled them back (but take that for what its worth because I am not really into desserts I just like making them) but my friends loved them as is! Butter Pecan Cookies

Butter Pecan ice cream is my favorite ice cream flavor but being lactose intolerant I don't indulge myself nearly as much as I would like so thse cookies always hit the spot!  Anyone who reads my blog regularly knows I love simple recipes and this one is one of the easiest you will ever make! Butter Pecan Cookies 3/4 cup pecans 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature 1/3 cup sugar, plus more for coating 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/8 teaspoon salt 1 cup all-purpose flour Preheat oven to 350 degrees. On a baking sheet, toast pecans until fragrant, about 6 minutes. Let cool completely; finely chop. With an electric mixer, cream butter and 1/3 cup sugar until light, about 1 minute. Beat in vanilla, salt, and flour, scraping down sides of bowl, just until dough comes together. Fold in pecans. Separate dough into 12 pieces; squeeze dough to shape into balls. Roll in sugar. Place, 3 inches apart, on a baking sheet. Gently flatten with the bottom of a glass (
